How To Save Today

When it comes to our personal finances, it can be an uphill battle for many of us, myself included. There are a number of products and services all vying for our attention and, more importantly, our hard earned, cold, hard cash. It’s as if we’re surrounded by vampires who suck our wallets and bank accounts dry, instead of our veins.  As such, it can be a great help to us to have a little extra financial advice at our disposal when navigating the fiscal pitfalls of modern life. Here are a few tips on how to save money.

First and foremost, know that you’ll need to make sacrifices to ensure a sound fiscal future. So, we’ll want to start making cuts to our lengthy lists of purchases. For starters, eliminate the luxuries. For instance, something like Medifast is a great way to lose weight, but you can simply do it the old fashioned way and spare the expense. It’s harder, sure, but it’s still well within the realm of possibility. Another example is fast food. Fast foos is typically more expensive than the “slow” alternative, and you’re really only paying for speed. You’ll want to replace fast food with home cooked meals, preferably made with fresh ingredients, and the same applies to other examples of processed foods. In some cases, however, processed foods, while not very healthy, are a cheaper alternative. So, use your own judgement.

Another important way to save is also in the grocery store. Simply buy off brand products when possible. You see, off brand products get a bad rap, and they’re almost always just as good as the name brand, but markedly cheaper. The problem is that big name brands have exclusive rights to eye level shelves in grocery store aisles, so they’re the default purchase for casual shoppers. Simply look to lower shelves, or higher ones, to find big savings.

For a more general shopping tip, simply keep your eyes peeled for savings. Retailers of all kinds typically employ frequent sales, coupons, and other cost cutting special offers to drum up some extra business. However, this allows an eagle eyed shopper to save big. All you have to do is consult the internet or your local paper to get an idea of what goes on sale when, and you can sign up to receive coupon books in the mail periodically.
